Is there anything better than coming home from trick-or-treating and wondering how you'll eat a bucket filled with Milky Way bars and M&Ms? No, probably not.
My kids got a haul this year, but that's mostly because I marched the three-year-old around the neighborhood for an extra 20 minutes (the husband took the younger one home, citing "cold weather"), and we made out like bandits. Ban-dits. We got handfuls of candy from some homes, and the generosity of my neighbors still continues to astound me. No one has to buy anything for trick-or-treaters, but they do in my neighborhood, and it's a great feeling. (A full-size candy bar sweetens the deal, to0.)
This is also the most difficult time of year, when I have candy coming out of my ears for months on end. I try to send some of it to my husband's work, but for the most part, it stays at home. Because honestly? If you think I'll give up my supply of peanut butter cups and Smarties, then you must not know me.
The only disappointment was receiving Starbursts clearly intended for Easter six months ago. I mean....really? Who gives out candy with an Easter bunny on it?
